Lichen can literally be found everywhere, from our front stoops in the cities to the untrammeled wilderness of the tundra. Our knowledgeable staff and volunteers, and our re- sources are here to help you expand and enhance your curriculum. Eco-Hike - The Movement of Migration - for ages five to nine - 11:45 - 12:45 Join us as we discuss the migration and adaptations that occur in this season. Held at High Rock Park. Moses Mountain Hike - for ages ten - fourteen - 11:30 -1 pm Hawks and eagles are excellent hunters due to their adaptations. Learn about these predators and their role in the food chain - “hoo” eats who. Weather permitting, we will hike to Moses Mountain in search of soaring birds of prey. Held at High Rock Park. (Note to parents: Parental supervision required. Hike involves crossing Manor Rd. and you are responsible for your children’s safe crossing.) Join us for our weekly evening hike where we will cover 4/5 miles. There are some small climbs but it's fairly easy. You will probably see parts of the Greenbelt and the trail system that you haven't seen before! Dress for the weather and trail conditions. Bring water and a snack if you think you'll need it. No reservation is required. We go in all weather unless conditions are dangerous. Always check the Greenbelt Conservancy's Facebook page for updates on changes or cancellations. Click here for information and hours of operation. – The Greenbelt educators will be participating in "American Frog Day," an annual event focused on assisting scientific study and captive maintenance of Dendrobatid frogs and other amphibians through the exchange of knowledge, and the promotion of captive breeding and husbandry of these remarkable frogs (and other amphibians)." Click here for more details. Saturday, September 23, 10 am Please join us to learn how you can lend a hand to maintain the Greenbelt trails. This is a training session designed to prepare volunteers to conduct light trail maintenance on their own throughout the year. It’s great for friends and familes, hikers and runners, anyone who enjoys being outdoors and getting involved in keeping the Greenbelt in great hiking condition. Following a brief indoor presentation, we will head out on a hike in the central Greenbelt. Along the trails, you will become more familiar with issues to address such light pruning, downed branches, overgrowth, debris and repairing trail markers. This workshop and volunteer program is suitable for those over the age of 14. Dress for the weather and terrain. Work gloves will be provided.
