Volunteer with us!

From trail maintenance to trail races and special events, we rely on volunteers to keep the Greenbelt in great hiking shape.  Volunteers of all ages are welcome to  join us.

In addition to outdoor projects, we have clerical opportunities as well. Community and school service credit may be arranged.

Below are some upcoming volunteer opportunities. Check back often as we add events. 

Frog Watch Monthly Monitoring Sessions:  March through August on the second Tuesday of the month, during the evening, we will monitor for frog activity in the Greenbelt’s wetlands.  We meet in a different location each month, and at a slightly different time. This series takes place in the evening. Check our calendar for the monthly details. Contact to volunteer to assist.

Completed: Thank you for volunteering! Sunday, June 2, 9 am – 12 noon – Volunteer Trail Maintenance along the Yellow Trail at Forest Hill Road and Platinum Avenue with Friends of Island Trails.  Go here for all the details. 

Completed: Thank you for volunteering! Saturday, June 8, 10 am: Forest Restoration Project in Deere Park with Protectors of Pine Oak Woods. Go here for all the details. 

Completed: Thank. you for volunteering! Sunday, June 23, 8 am: Special Event volunteers needed for “Race for the Ring,” a two-mile mini-obstacle course for couples competing to win a Forever Mark engagement ring!  It’s a fun morning in Willowbrook park.  Event details are here.

Thursday, June 27, 6 pm: Special event volunteers needed for the Annual Blue Jean Ball at the Carousel in Willowbrook Park.  We need college-age or older, students/adults to assist with event set-up, serving and greeting at this fun event with live music and a great crowd. Tuesdays from July 16 through August 6: Forest Stewards 

Lend a hand and care for the land during the growing season. Activities may include cutting back overgrown and invasive vegetation, watering plants, spreading wood chips, and more.  Community service credit available. Bring water and a snack; recommended for adults and teens comfortable with strenuous outdoor activities. Meet at the Greenbelt Nature Center. Ages 14+.  Registration required.
