Take a walk on one of the inspiring trails near the Greenbelt Nature Center, find/collect materials such as twigs, pods, pine cones, or pebbles, then arrange/glue your found objects to a base to create a small mosaic piece for yourself and make components for a collectively made natural mural. Participants will have the option of working social distance style on the outside patio of the Greenbelt Nature Center or pick up a supply packet and watch a video for instructions to create their pieces individually. This project is funded in part by a DCA Art Fund Grant from Staten Island Arts with public funding from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs. Age 5+. Free, but registration required - please preregister here. – Join us for an exploration of the critters that make their home on the ground. On this hike we will observe up close and record our findings. The Greenbelt’s open spaces provide opportunity for children to connect with nature and discover the wonders of our unique urban forest. Within a landscape of plants and trees, children and their caregiver will have the opportunity to explore, move, create and learn in a safe and welcoming environment. First Forest Discovery is suitable for one child accompanied by one caregiver.
