Interpretive and Trail Navigation Signage made possible by Con Edison
Last year, the Greenbelt Conservancy unveiled new trail-side interpretive signs that explain the flora and fauna of our natural areas park. “Way finding” signs are also new throughout the trail system; they will better help hikers navigate the Greenbelt’s extensive trails system.
These signs (twenty-one in total) were made possible by generous funding from Con Edison. Please go here to view the handsome signs and their locations. Please go here to view the handsome new signs and their locations.
“The Greenbelt is one of Staten Island’s rare gems. There are very few places within New York City which offer a similar landscape and environment. The trail signage supported by Con Edison will be the first of its kind anywhere in the New York City Park system. Much of the work we do impacts the environment. So we are always mindful of the importance to preserve our natural resources and help others enjoy them. Everything matters,” said Con Edison’s Mark Irving.
The Greenbelt has over 35 miles of rustic trails that are fully utilized by residents and visitors during all seasons. The new signs will be found throughout the trails and will enhance the visitors’ experience by offering interesting facts about flora and fauna, and explaining the rich history behind the natural park. Also new to the trail, will be posts to help hikers navigate the extensive trail system. This will allow them to be more confident about the woodland surroundings and their location.
