Share your creative ideas, your smiles, and your generous spirit as Richmondtown Library and Greenbelt Educators host a book exchange and upcycled paper craft workshop. Take home something new to read, and, using paper and other second-hand materials, craft something that a special someone is sure to love. – Come stroll the fields of Seaview and Bloodroot Valley on the way to Paulo’s Peak. We will be on the lookout for the fall colors. It should be peak on the peak! – Join us for the Greenbelt Geological Hike! Event Location: Greenbelt Nature Center The Greenbelt is located on the terminal moraine of the Wisconsin Glacier. During this hike through the central Greenbelt and past a serpentine ridge, see how glacial topography shaped the Greenbelt's past, charted a course for the present-day Greenbelt trails, and will help shape a sustainable, resilient future. Led by experienced guides, this in-person event will take you on a journey through the unique terrain of the area. Learn about the formation of the landscape, discover different rock formations, and uncover the secrets hidden beneath the surface. This hike is perfect for nature lovers, geology enthusiasts, and anyone looking for an adventure in the great outdoors. Local historian and author Pat Salmon will present about how Staten Island was several centuries ago. Take us on a trip back in time through information gathered from research and archaeological digs related to the Lenape, the arrival of Early Europeans, African-American History, the Peace Conference, and more. This program is sponsored by NYC City Council Discretionary Funds. – Listen to a story or two about autumn leaves, then make your own creative and colorful picture using leaves. Weather permitting, we will go on a short walk. Autumn is a colorful, magical season, so let’s learn more about it. o gather additional leaves. Recommended for ages 4-8 with adult chaperone. Additional instructions for participants: Dress appropriately for the weather conditions. If it rains, the program will be held indoors. We will take a short walk if conditions allow. – Come join us for a scenic adult hike to the LaTourette Golf House at the Greenbelt Nature Center. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through nature while taking in the beautiful surroundings. This in-person event is a great way to unwind and connect with fellow nature enthusiasts. Don't miss out on this opportunity to explore the hidden gem of the LaTourette Golf House. Lace up your hiking boots and get ready for an adventure! – Lend a hand and care for the land by removing phragmites, an invasive plant, from Loosestrife Swamp. This will improve the swamp ecosystem and help prepare for a more extensive restoration project taking place next spring. Dress appropriately for working outdoors in the weather conditions. Gloves and tools will be provided. Be prepared to work in mud. Ages 16+. – Discover more about sound through a series of experiments, demonstrations, and STEAM activities that families can do together. Recommended for ages 5-10 with their adult chaperone. Additional instructions for participants: Wear clothes that can get messy, and dress appropriately for potentially being outside for a few minutes if weather permits.
