We will record and monitor a variety of freshwater invertebrates that call the Greenbelt home. Meet at Nevada Ave parking lot, Geared towards ages 5-10 with grownup. Registration required. Wednesday July 10: Join us for leisurely walk through different parklands in Staten Island that are not part of the Greenbelt - we will visit our neighboring parks this summer! Enjoy the picturesque views of each park, as we point out a few of the unique features that make them special. Tuesday, June 11: Become a citizen scientist and discover how you can help frogs and toads in our environment by identifying and monitoring their unique vocal calls. FrogWatch USA is a nationwide program that monitors and tracks amphibian populations by collecting data with help from volunteers like you! Your data is valuable in assessing the health and biodiversity of local amphibian populations, and you may also have a chance to monitor your favorite wetland with your family, friends, or scout troop. You may also have the opportunity to attend special workshops related to amphibians. Community service credit is available. This is a monthly series through August, 2019. Please check each listing as time and location will change each month. The weekly evening group hike covers approximately five miles at a quick pace. All are welcome including children with hiking experience who can cover the distance. Please dress for the weather and terrain, and bring water to sustain you. This hike meets in all seasons. Beginning in October, headlamps or a flashlight is required.
