Sunday, March 8: Join the Urban Park Rangers to learn about deer. We will find signs of deer in the park (buck rubs, deer scat, deer prints, chewed twigs) hike outdoors, and share five tips to follow to promote a healthy coexistence with these animals. Tuesday, March 10: FrogWatch USA is a nationwide citizen science program that monitors and tracks amphibian populations by collecting data with help from volunteers like you! Wednesdays: This weekly evening group hike covers approximately five miles at a quick pace. All are welcome including children with hiking experience who can cover the distance. Please dress for the weather and terrain, and bring water and a snack if you think you will need it. Be advised that there are some inclines, exposed tree roots and uneven terrain along our course. This hike meets in all seasons. Beginning in October, headlamps or a flashlight is required. No advance registration is required for this free event. Join us! Peepers are tiny, and can be found in the Greenbelt wetlands. Saturday, March 14: NYC Parks’ Wildlife Unit collects information regarding location and success of nesting birds of prey throughout New York City. Join us to scout areas for active nests around the Greenbelt. NYC Parks’ staff will provide basic training and binoculars to borrow, for those that need it. Pre-registration is preferred.
