Sunday, May 27: Learn what it takes to be an Amateur Entomologist by exploring the world of insects! The Bug Club is an educational mini-series that explores the anatomy, life-cycles and the natural history of BUGS through engaging activities, bug excursions in the Greenbelt, and live insect demos. Ages 5+. All Bug Club sessions take place at the Greenbelt Nature Center unless otherwise stated. Donations welcome. Join us as we explore the life cycles of insects with a focus on how caterpillars morph into moths and butterflies. We will also learn how you can support our local pollinators at home through Citizen Science. Sunday, May 27: Join us and other dog lovers for a “Pack-Hike” in the Greenbelt!! It’s a fun, and informative way to socialize with your dog, while getting the exercise both you and your dog need to stay healthy. Hike will be approximately 2 miles in length. All dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Free program. Registration required. Activities include canoeing, fishing, archery, birds of prey, and more! Partner organizations include NYC Parks, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, The Staten Island Zoo, Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve, The Raptor Project, and more to come. Enjoy free samples of Munk Pack Squeeze Oatmeal and protein cookies. – Live in the City but love the outdoors! We are happy to welcome our friends from Outdoor Fest back to the Greenbelt Neighborhood for a fun weekend of planned camping, trail races, hiking, yoga, live music, socializing and lots more. Greenbelt staff members will be leading a hike from Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds into High Rock Park in the afternoon. The camping weekend in Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds kicks off a week of celebrating and enjoying nature and outdoor activities in the NYC region. Go here for all the details and schedule.
