Activities may include cutting back overgrown and invasive vegetation, watering plants, spreading wood chips, and more. Community service credit available. Enjoy the picturesque views of each park, as we point out a few of the unique features that make that park special. Hikes start at 10:00, the length of the hike will be determined by the pace of the group. Registration required. Wednesdays: The weekly evening group hike covers approximately five miles at a quick pace. All are welcome including children with hiking experience who can cover the distance. Please dress for the weather and terrain, and bring water to sustain you. This hike meets in all seasons. Beginning in October, headlamps or a flashlight is required. Please join us! – Thursdays, July 11 - August 8: Join us for this weekly series filled with woodland adventures, including hikes, seasonal explorations, stories, and crafts. This program is designed for a caregiver and age-appropriate child to explore the wonders of the forest together. Fee per week: $8 non-members/$6 Greenbelt Conservancy members. Fee per series: $32 non-members/$24 Greenbelt Conservancy members (pay for 4 weeks, get 1 week free). Friday July 26: Moths are the night dwelling cousins of butterflies! Join us, on this summer evening program at High Rock Park and learn about the biodiversity of moths and other nocturnal insects. We will bait trees, and visit a light station to attract night-time wildlife, especially moths. Please bring a headlamp or flashlight. Ages 8+. Free program. Registration required.
