Wednesday September 18: Visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light is all around us! It affects everything from how we see the world, to the plants we grow for food, and everything in between. These experiments will explore the behavior of light and its interactions with matter. Ages 8-10 with adult chaperone. Free program. Register via Eventbrite - registration opens August 30. Wednesdays: The weekly evening group hike covers approximately five miles at a quick pace. All are welcome including children with hiking experience who can cover the distance. Please dress for the weather and terrain, and bring water to sustain you. This hike meets in all seasons. Beginning in October, headlamps or a flashlight is required. Please join us! – Friday, September 20: Lace up your hiking shoes for a family-friendly nature walk with our friends from Fresh Kills Park! On this stroll through the Greenbelt, we’ll provide Discovery backpacks equipped with all the tools you need to observe the different plants and animals around you. In the case of rain, we’ll move indoors and work on a seasonal craft. This program is open to families with children of all ages, but it’s recommended for children 5+.
