– Sunday, November 3: The Richard Buegler Fall 10-Mile Greenbelt Walk, hosted by the Protectors of Pine Oak Woods, begins at the Greenbelt Nature Center. Participants will explore the heart of the Greenbelt while exploring the colorful fall woods. For information, call Dominick Durso at 917-478-7607 – Tuesday, November 5: Project WILD is an interdisciplinary education program for grades K-12 emphasizing awareness, appreciation, and understanding of wildlife and natural resources, with hands-on, diverse activities that help develop problem-solving and decision making skills in determining responsible human actions. Whether you teach science, math, language arts, social studies, or physical education, Project WILD is an ideal way to supplement your curriculum and can spark a new interest for your students. Registered participants take home a FREE Project WILD Curriculum and Activity guide. $10 materials fee. Refreshments provided. Registration via Eventbrite. – There will be no group hike on Christmas Day, December 25 and New Year's Day, January 1, 2020 Wednesdays: The weekly evening group hike covers approximately five miles at a quick pace. All are welcome including children with hiking experience who can cover the distance. Please dress for the weather and terrain, and bring water to sustain you. This hike meets in all seasons. Beginning in October, headlamps or a flashlight is required. TEST Please join us! – Thursdays October 3- December 5 (excluding Thanksgiving November 28) Through hands-on activities, crafts, and stories, 2 year-olds and their caregivers will become familiar with the sights and sounds of the forest. During this two-hour "hikeshop", we'll lead you on a walking tour of your local trails and ask you to give your input on trail conditions and features, trail way finding, connectivity to public transit and other trails, as well as general feedback about walking on trails in the city.
