Tuesday, November 19: Warnings by biologists that Staten Island’s forests are facing a severe threat from over-browsing and invasive species have prompted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Borough President James Oddo to partner with the College of Staten Island, the Greenbelt Conservancy and the Protectors of Pine Oak Woods to present a Forest Ecology Forum on Tuesday, November 19th, 2019. The free forum, which is open to the public, will take place at The Center for the Arts at the College of Staten Island beginning at 7pm. – There will be no group hike on Christmas Day, December 25 and New Year's Day, January 1, 2020 Wednesdays: The weekly evening group hike covers approximately five miles at a quick pace. All are welcome including children with hiking experience who can cover the distance. Please dress for the weather and terrain, and bring water to sustain you. This hike meets in all seasons. Beginning in October, headlamps or a flashlight is required. TEST Please join us! Wednesday, November 20, 6:30pm Greenbelt Nature Center Each month we feature different science topics and provide experiments designed for children and their guardians to accomplish together. Ages 8-10 with adult chaperone. Free, fun and educationational. Our online registration will begin shortly. – Thursdays October 3- December 5 (excluding Thanksgiving November 28) Through hands-on activities, crafts, and stories, 2 year-olds and their caregivers will become familiar with the sights and sounds of the forest. Space is limited. Saturday, November 23 at 10 am for the Greenbelt's Annual Fall Flat 5K in Willowbrook Park. This is a great and scenic trail race for beginners and competitive athletes alike. Proceeds help support the Greenbelt Conservancy's trail maintenance and environmental education programs.
