– Adult Hike: Old Mill Road to Model Airplane Field in La Tourette Park Come join us for a scenic hike through La Tourette Park! We will be starting at the **parking lot across from the Church of St Andrew** and making our way to the Model Airplane Field. This is a great opportunity to enjoy nature, get some exercise, and maybe even spot some model airplanes in action. Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. See you there! – An introductory 3 mile run with short 15 minute walks to warm up and cool down. Perfect for anyone looking to learn how to stay healthy and safe while running on trails in the Greenbelt. Additional instructions for participants: Bring comfortable running shoes and attire and water to stay hydrated. – Join NYC H2O at the Greenbelt Nature Center to build traps to stop the spread of invasive spotted lanternflies. – "Days Afield on Staten Island". Staten Island OutLOUD celebrates the summer season and explores the writing of Island naturalist William T Davis (1862-1945). This will be a free participatory reading. Family friendly. One of the founders of the Staten Island Museum, Mr Davis wrote extensively on Island flora and fauna, and on our local history. His journal, "Days Afield" is a charming narrative of his daily explorations of Staten Islands woodlands, meadows and shoreline. For details, visit OutLOUD's Facebook Page, www.facebook.com/StatenIslandOutLOUD – Join us for a deep woods hike into the heart of the Greenbelt. Enjoy the cooler temperature and listen to the sounds of nature. Maybe we will catch a glimpse of a deer! – Join us for a night of FerryHawk Fun in support of The Greenbelt Conservancy on Thursday, August 15th! Game starts at 6:30pm with gates opening at 5:30pm. $3 of each ticket sold will go to support the Greenbelt Conservancy! Be sure to stop by our sales table behind section 9 to pick up your Hawk City Rally Towel. – Spiders are usually associated with the autumn season, but August is actually a great time to find spiders. Learn fun facts about spiders and their webs, hear a story, design your own spider and web, and, weather permitting, search around the building, the garden, and take a short walk on the trail in search of spiders, harvestmen, and other amazing arachnids and insects. Recommended for ages 4-8 with adult chaperone. – The mission of the Greenbelt Conservancy is to promote, sustain and enhance Staten Island’s 2,800-acre Greenbelt through education, recreation, conservation and research. The Greenbelt Conservancy is a not-for-profit organization that works in partnership with NYC Parks.
