Whether this is your first trail race, or you run with us often, we guarantee you a fun time with a great group of local runners – in the beautiful Greenbelt! This course is flat, and Fall foliage should still be offering some dazzle!

Supporting the Greenbelt While You Run

Your participation and race fee helps support the not-for-profit Greenbelt Conservancy, which works in partnership with NYC Parks, to care for the Greenbelt’s parks, trail system and diverse programs.

About the Course and Timing

Fall Flat takes you along Willowbrook’s White Trail and around the lake; it is flat and well suited for novice runners and walkers as well as more competitive athletes. The course is clearly marked with overhead ribbons. Course marshalls are in place to provide assistance. There is one water stop mid-course.

The race is professionally chip-timed culminating in an awards ceremony with refreshments.

Medals, Race Shirts, Photos

Medals are awarded to the top three finishers in twelve age categories, as well as to the top overall male/female finishers. A wicking race shirt is provided for all pre-registered runners.

Race photos are posted on the The Greenbelt Conservancy facebook page within 48 hours of race day.

Race bibs, timing chips and shirts will be distributed on race day. Arrive early to pick-up. Same day registration is $35.00 – register early to save money! Start time is 10 am.  On-line registration is here.

We look forward to welcoming back familiar faces and greeting new friends. If you have any questions about Fall Flat, or the Greenbelt in general, please feel free to contact us at Greenbelt headquarters by phone: 718-667-2165, ext. 309, or by email at: communication@sigreenbelt.org

Additional running/training opportunities in other Staten Island parks are below:

Wednesday: There’s an evening hike at 6 pm Wednesday nights beginning September 5 (head lamps are required).  During the hike, you can become more familiar with trail terrain.  The 7 pm trail run typically takes on a fast pace, and is better suited for more experienced runners.  Meet at the Greenbelt Nature Center, 700 Rockland Avenue. Details are on the Greenbelt’s events calendar.

Sunday: Every Sunday at 9 am at Conference House Park, 298 Saterlee Avenue, Staten Island, NY, the New York Road Runners host an Open Run 5-K for free! All are welcome to run, jog or walk the course, and meet a great group of active adults and children.

Volunteer for Fall Flat

If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Jeanne Paliswiat at Greenbelt headquarters: 718-667-2165, ext. 311 or by email at jeanne.paliswiat@parks.nyc.gov The Greenbelt can provide community involvement verification for students and scouts. Runner comments from previous races:

GREAT RUN!! Well organized. The real meaning of trail-running… mud, obstacles, and rough terrain. Loved every minute of it! I’ll be back next year.

My husband and I had a great time. The trails were narrow in certain areas which made it a challenge to pass by that just added to the excitement. The band was fantastic and the post race bagels and fruit were delicious. We liked the idea of the hat instead of the race shirt too. We will run it again next year!
