Advanced Basketry / Chinese Wisteria
Join in on our first Advanced Basketry series to learn how to identify and safely harvest your own natural materials to create a simple basket. The first part of the program will be focused on hiking to the harvesting site, finding our materials, and safely removing them from the landscape to prepare for the craft program. Not only will we be harvesting them for a utilitarian purpose, but the Greenbelt will be healthier once we’ve removed damaging invasive plants from the forest. The second part of the program will reconvene back in our outdoor classroom to learn a universal basket weave to turn all of your Wisteria vines into a beautiful rustic basket. Best for ages 12+.
Please be sure to wear long pants, long sleeve shirts, and bring water. We will be using hand pruners and some other hand tools for harvesting our vines. Work gloves and bug spray will be provided.
