'Tis the season for the return of sea ducks, gulls and grebes to the lower New York Harbor. We will stand at the end of the fishing pier to observe the wildlife in the bay and earn how to identify these birds. We will likely see a seal or two! Dress for the weather and bring a hot drink. Meet in Lot 8 on Father Capodanno Boulevard (near the intersection with Seaview Ave). Bring field guides and binoculars if you own them. Go here to register. We will play a Deer Survival Game and find signs of deer in the park (buck rubs, deer scat, deer prints, chewed twigs, hike outdoors, and share five tips to follow to promote a healthy coexistence with these animals. Click here for information and hours of operation. Every Wednesday: Join us for our weekly evening, guided hike where we will cover 4/5 miles. There are some small climbs but it's fairly easy. You will probably see parts of the Greenbelt and the trail system that you haven't seen before! A headlamp or flashlight is required. Dress for the weather and trail conditions. Bring water and a snack if you think you'll need it. No reservation is required. We go in all weather unless conditions are dangerous. Always check the Greenbelt Conservancy's Facebook page for updates on changes or cancellations (Cancellations generally only occur in very bad weather). This hike will include a brief visit to the LaTourette house. We will be out for approximately 2.5 hours, and the pace is moderate. We usually have a large group for this event so it's fun!
