– Let’s enjoy the red trail and prepare for the winter. Meet at the Greenbelt Nature Center at 11:00am, 700 Rockland Ave. at the intersection of Rockland and Brielle Ave. – – Get to know the Greenbelt trails by joining us each month for a different hiking-adventure. In December we will hike the Red Trail and a portion of the blue trail from the Greenbelt Nature Center on this brisk paced hike. Distance is approximately 3-4 miles. We will meet and begin at the Greenbelt Nature Center located at 700 Rockland Avenue. Duration will depend on the pace/size of the group. Please be prepared for the weather, distance and terrain. Bring plenty of water and a snack. – Celebrate the harvest’s bounty by learning how to make this traditional Native American craft. Corn Husk Dolls span time and cultures, and are fun and easy ways to honor the spirit of corn while giving thanks for the abundant harvest. This program has video instructions and you can pick up FREE materials to get started on your very own Corn Husk Doll! – Join Chris and Angel from the comfort of your own phone or home on this Facebook Live virtual hike to explore the history, natural features, and recent stewardship projects along the Greenbelt’s Nature Center Trail (N-Trail). As one of LaTourette Park’s most traveled trails, there will be a lot to see and even more to learn about as we adventure through the pathways and changing seasons. – Prior care and the routine maintenance of hand tools are essential to Greenbelt Conservation Corps stewardship projects. Join the GCC staff and volunteers in learning how to sharpen, clean and store trail tools during this professional trail workshop. Stay healthy during and after your pregnancy by getting active in the Greenbelt. Join in on our monthly pregnancy and postpartum hike with an Environmental Educator who is also expecting a baby. Start with gentle stretches to prepare your body and move onto a maternity-level hike to keep our bodies moving and our community building. Hike will be easy-moderate between 1-2 miles. – Join us for the last adult hike of the year. Bundle up and let’s enjoy the stillness of nature. Meet at Corner of Prospect Ave and Brentwood Ave. – Join the Urban Park Rangers and the Greenbelt Conservancy for this annual community science project where we count and identify what birds we see in the park. While walking on woodland paths, participants will learn how to identify birds based on their feathers, calls, and behavior. All of our findings will be logged and submitted to the Audubon Society's yearly count. – Join us at High Rock Park for our first outdoor Con Edison’s Family Science program. This program is a series of free monthly sessions featuring science topics and experiments designed for children and parents to accomplish as a team. A few short, self-guided activities will start families thinking together. December’s program will meet at the parking lot at High Rock Park and will be fully outdoors and will include a short hike. Please dress appropriately for the weather and terrain. *** Each ticket is good for a family/group of up to 4 people. Get yours today!
