You may not notice it at the time, but spring will officially arrive in the Greenbelt at 5:58 PM on Wednesday, March 20. That is the moment, in this Year of the Greenbelt, of the vernal equinox, when the hours of daylight and dark are most nearly equal.
What you are more likely to notice is the spectacular supermoon that will rise about four hours later. We won’t see such a close coincidence of equinox and full moon again until 2030.
With the zephyrs of spring the Greenbelt comes alive with fun things to see and do. Please explore our website for a sampling. Meanwhile, here’s more about matters equinoxian. – Bonnie Fritz, Greenbelt Conservancy President
