Session 1:July 6 – 9
Insects
Bugs! They're a more
important part of the environment than you might realize. We'll take a close
look at some of the insects that make their homes in the Greenbelt..

Session 2: July 12-15
Birds
Many types of birds call the
Greenbelt home, and each of them plays a different role in the balance of

Session 3: July 19-22
Reptiles
Several types of reptiles thrive in and around the ponds and creeks of
the Greenbelt. They tend to be shy and are not often seen, but they are very

Plants &
Trees
Five hundred years ago, much of New York City
was covered with a canopy of trees. Learn why many of them can no longer be

Water
The Greenbelt has an
abundance of water - that most essential of life's ingredients. We'll learn
where the water is, where it goes and what its presence means to life in the

Session 6: August 9-12
Mammals
The forest lands of
the Greenbelt are home to deer, raccoons, opossums, squirrels and other mammals.

Camp
Summer Day Camp for youngsters ages 7-12
years
We will be covering one theme every
two weeks,
but each week will host different activities.

I: Once Upon The Greenbelt
Week
1: July 6 - 9

Campers
will see all the sights and explore little known places within the
Greenbelt. We'll look for ruins of old houses, evidence of animals,
examine Greenbelt geology, and ride the Carousel as we learn all
there is to know about our unique park. Sign up for this session |

Conduct
amazing experiments and become a citizen scientist by observing frogs,
birds, ladybugs, and bees. The information campers collect will be used by
scientists to understand these animals better. Sign up for this

Theme III: Earth, Sea and Sky

Teen Naturalist
A naturalist training program for 13
to 14 year olds
The Teen Naturalists summer program is designed to introduce teens to nature interpretation, environmental education, forest restoration and parks stewardship. Sessions are weekly, Monday through Thursday, except for week one which runs Tuesday through Friday.
A
leadership role
The Teen Naturalists program will parallel the Greenbelt Explorer Camp themes and participants will take on a
leadership role in activities. You have the option of registering your teen for
a week at a time or for the entire six week season.
Availability is limited
Registration is required and is accepted by mail on a
first-come, first-served basis Once your application
and payment has been processed, you will be sent a Parent Handbook and health
form for your teen’s doctor to complete. Become a Greenbelt
Conservancy member and receive a discount on registration. This program is
very popular and space is limited, so applicants are advised to register early.

Enrollment in the Greenbelt Conservancy Summer Day Camp program grants the Greenbelt Conservancy and the New York City Parks Department permission to use photographs and video recordings of campers for promotional purposes.
