“Great race!!!! We had a great time with all the awesome people, thank you!!!” – Katie K
The Greenbelt’s “Cold Feat” 10-K Trail Race is brought to you by the Greenbelt Conservancy, Race Management Group and NYC Parks. We are grateful to the friendly staff at LaTourette golf course for allowing us to share their beautiful facilities on race day. The golf course Grille Room Bar will be open post race to serve those over 21.
Start/finish is by the federal style David LaTourette House. The route begins on the rolling fairways and takes you off into the surrounding Greenbelt trails – rustic and hilly. Due to elevations, parts of this course are challenging, making that feeling of crossing the finish line even more rewarding. We run in all weather conditions and, based on past race experiences, have found it can be done! This race will be professionally timed culminating in an awards ceremony. Refreshments and race appropriate apparel are provided for runners.
Our first cold weather race, presented by the Greenbelt and New York Adventure Racing Association was held in 2010 and a great time was had by all (despite the nearly two-feet of snow accumulation from several previous storms and frigid temperature). A group of more than 100 hardy runners endured to finish the race earning their fleece mittens and hot chocolate! The 2011 race brought cold temperatures and a biting wind. For our 2012 race, the weather was on our side and no one got frostbite!

Runners’ comments:
The course was awesome. It had a good mix of flat straightaways, steep uphills, and big downhills. It was extremely well-marked with yellow tags on the trees and an occasional arrow pointing us in the right direction. Despite not seeing the runner ahead of me for parts of the race, I never missed a turn (which always seems to happen to me during trail races).
There were a TON of volunteers along the course – ensuring we were following the right course, giving us helpful pointers for the next stretch of trails (rocky, slippery, etc), taking a lot of awesome pictures, and cheering for us. And even though it was a small, local, short trail race, there was an awesome table of water, gatorade products, and fuel options just past mile 3. It was one of the best and most fun races I’ve done in a long time.

I rate this a”ten,” I mean 5 stars! Very well organized, great course, lots of encouraging marshalls… helps makes Staten Island a contender in the trail race category…
